The California civil court system handles many types of cases, from personal injury lawsuits to breach of contract claims, and many others. Each type of case will involve different state laws, different time limits, different burdens of proof, and more. If you believe you need to file a civil claim, contact a civil litigation lawyer in Pleasanton to discuss your options.
What civil cases does your firm handle?
Our team of attorneys takes on different types of civil cases, including:
- Real estate disputes
- Landlord-tenant disputes
- Business litigation
- Tax litigation
- Will and trust contests and litigation
- Claims for financial elder abuse
Whether you face a legal matter involving your business, estate planning, property, or finances, you should contact our firm to see how we can assist you.
What are the time limits to file civil claims in California?
California law sets different time limits – called statutes of limitations – for different types of legal claims. For example, if you have allegations that another party breached a contract, you have four years to file a lawsuit. You have three years to file a fraud claim against a business or another individual, or one year to file most malpractice lawsuits. Of course, there might be exceptions to these statutes of limitations, so you want a lawyer to evaluate the time limits in your specific case.
Will my case go to trial?
There is always the possibility that a claim will make it to trial, however, our attorneys work to reach a settlement agreement throughout the litigation process. We try to resolve each case as efficiently as possible, though we are also ready to represent clients in court when necessary.
